Rusanov Vladimir Alexandrovich - Russian pioneer of the XX century.
- (1875 - 1913), geologist, explorer. From 1903 he was engaged in the study of the Arctic. From 1907 to 1911 participated in five expeditions to Novaya Zemlya, described in detail and photographed the shores of the archipelago. He circled Novaya Zemlya on motor-sailing ships and repeatedly crossed it in different directions. Rusanov described the four lips opened by the Nenets guide Tyko Vylka. He himself discovered Oga Bay, made a new map of Severny Island, discovered a number of small coastal islands, mines and mineral deposits. In 1912, on a small sailing and motor boat "Hercules" (captain A. Kuchin), he led an expedition to the Spitsbergen archipelago and discovered four new coal deposits there. Then he made an attempt to go through the North-Eastern Passage and reached Cape Zhelaniya on Novaya Zemlya. The expedition went missing.
Later, its traces were discovered in the skerries of Minin Land near the western coast of the Bolshoi Peninsula and the Taimyr Peninsula.
